Puppy Training Course

Next course start date: June 13th

As a new parent, teaching your puppy appropriate manners and behavior is invaluable. Puppies between the ages of 2-6 months absorb new information more quickly and easily than at any other age. It is also during this period that we instruct our clients to refrain from taking their puppy anywhere outside of their own home. Until your new companion has received ALL of their puppy vaccine boosters, we do not want to risk any exposure to harmful diseases that their body is not ready to fight.

Our standards of puppy care are in the best interest of the puppy's immune system. However, it can be very difficult to train and socialize a puppy when you can't bring it anywhere!

To help our clients raise a well-mannered puppy and stay compliant with medical standards, we are offering classes in a controlled environment. Think of it as a Get Out of Jail Free card for your puppy to learn, grow, and play with other puppies once a week!

FAQ:

Who will be training my puppy?

Training, manners, and socialization will all be taught by Sarah Rodriguez, CPDT with Home Schooled Hound. She will be assisted by 1-2 of our Covina Animal Hospital veterinary assistants during each session.

Does my puppy qualify for your training course?

Before signing up for classes, make sure your puppy meets the following conditions. You are always welcome to call us if you have questions about your puppies exam and/or vaccine status.
  • Must have a physical exam with a doctor at Covina Animal Hospital within 3 months.
  • Must be at least 10 weeks of age at the start of the first class.
  • Cannot be any older than 24 weeks (6 months) at the start of the first class.
  • Must have their first DHPP vaccine at least 2 weeks prior to the first day of class.
  • Must have had a fecal test performed prior to the start of the first class.

During the training course, it is important that your puppy stays current on all of their booster vaccines. An itemized vaccine schedule will have been created for you during your puppy's first exam. To qualify for the course you must comply with this vaccination schedule. If you miss a scheduled vaccine by more than 4 weeks, we will kindly ask that you forfeit class participation until your puppy has received his or her booster vaccine(s). Any classes missed will not be refundable. However, you can join us for the next scheduled class meeting time given that all vaccines have been boostered.

My puppy is just over 6 months, can I still sign up?

For the sake of the other puppies in the class, we are intentionally keeping the age ranges to a minimum. Learning in a group setting is more difficult and unfair to all the puppies in the class if each puppy is at a different life and learning stage. However, if your puppy is older than 6 months and you are interested in training, individual classes are available with our trainer at Home Schooled Hound. Contact Sarah by visiting her website at  www.homeschooledhound.com.

What do I need to bring to class?

For the first session, all you need is yourself! We kindly ask that you leave your puppy at home so we can keep your undivided attention. Folders, handouts, coffee, and water will be provided. For each subsequent class, we will let you know ahead of time what we would like you to bring.
For any further questions or concerns, please contact Mackenzie or Jenna at (626) 331-5374 or email us at [email protected]
