Stress and anxiety is commonly associated with veterinary visits for both people and their pets. Could it be because your pet is in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people? Or perhaps it's because there is an overwhelming amount of scents and sounds? While it is completely understandable for your pet to react negatively to these stimuli, we want to minimize the triggers of that anxiety and eliminate the negative stigma around animal hospitals. After all, regular visits to the doctor is a very important aspect of keeping your pet happy and healthy!
So, What is Fear Free?
Fear Free is an educational program designed for veterinary professionals that focuses on the mental and emotional well-being of our canine and feline patients. The program consists of eight courses that, combined, provide the knowledge and tools necessary for veterinary professionals to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress in patients and their owners.
How are we implementing Fear Free?
In addition to our certified professionals on staff, we provide basic Fear Free training to all our staff members and are continuously working to make our hospital a fear free environment for you and your pet. This includes a feline only exam room, use of calming pheromone sprays on uniforms and towels, and a wide variety of treats in exam rooms and in our treatment area. While we don’t advocate giving treats to your pet at home, we believe giving high value treats (when medically appropriate) is essential to gaining trust and making the visit an enjoyable experience for your pet.
If you think your pet could benefit from our Fear Free methods, give us a call for more information and we can plan your visit accordingly!
